Limuna is a private timeline that lives on your phone. There is no Limuna account and no Limuna server, so we never receive, see or sell what you write. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking in the app.
What stays on your phone
Your events, dates, places, notes, tags and photos are stored on your phone. Private events are hidden behind Face ID or your passcode.
Encryption
Encryption is optional. Once you set an emoji key, everything in your timeline and every backup are encrypted on the phone, with a key only you hold. Without an emoji key, backups are plain files.
Some things stay unencrypted even with a key: files you send with Send to…, PDF exports and events shared with Nearby. The widget and reminders show the titles of events that are not private.
Backups
Backups are optional and off until you turn them on. You choose where they go: iCloud on iPhone, or a hidden app folder in your own Google Drive. Apple and Google store the files under their own privacy policies. With an emoji key, every backup is encrypted as a whole before it leaves your phone, so they cannot read the contents.
Sync
Sync is optional and off until you turn it on. It keeps one timeline in step across your own devices through the same iCloud Drive or Google Drive as your backups, in a hidden area there. It needs an emoji key, so every file it writes is encrypted. There is no Limuna server in between.
Places and maps
- When Limuna suggests a place name or draws a small map, it sends only a position or the place’s text to Apple Maps (iPhone) or Google (Android). A built-in list of cities works offline.
- Your location is read only when you tap the pin on the Today card, never in the background. Only the place name and a position rounded to about a kilometre are saved.
Photos and camera
- Limuna adds only the photos you pick or take for an event.
- If you allow access to your photo library on iPhone, Limuna can suggest trips and big days from it. To find them it reads only when and where photos were taken, and that stays on your phone. To name a place, only a position rounded to about a kilometre goes to Apple Maps.
- The camera is also used to scan a code when you receive an event from another phone.
Sharing an event
You can hand one event to someone next to you. It travels directly between the two phones over Bluetooth or your local network, not through the internet or any server.
Face ID and notifications
Face ID is handled by your phone; Limuna only learns whether unlocking succeeded. Notifications are off until you turn them on and are scheduled on the phone itself.
Purchases
Purchases are handled by Apple. We receive no payment details.
Deleting your data
Deleting the app removes everything stored on the phone. Backups you made stay in your iCloud or Google Drive until you delete them there.
